Back from two days in Aachen discussing and learning all things #EV #SmartCharging and #v2g

- some key insights in my post over at Linkedin

linkedin.com/posts/jaapburger_

www.linkedin.com#vehicle2grid | Jaap BurgerYesterday I spoke at the two-day #Vehicle2Grid conference in Aachen about the spread of smart tariffs and services across Europe. These tariffs and services enable consumers to charge their EVs smartly, contributing to power system reliability, sustainability, and lower costs for all energy system users. In the same session, Niklas Hemberger of The Mobility House, Michael P. Evans of Octopus Energy and Daniel Mata of Tibber showed how they unlock the value of different markets for their users today, and at scale. There are now 480 of these possibilities throughout Europe, mainly at home, but public smart charging is also starting to grow. At the same time, there are still very large differences in availability and market access (such as for independent aggregators) between countries - even in the EU. So close to where three countries meet, in a city served by a regional train that connects three countries, it is even more obvious that there is every reason to be creating a single European market for smart energy; after all, borders are just lines that you cannot see. Thanks to Dr. Christopher Hecht and Dr. Jan Figgener, and Bernd Hömberg of Haus der Technik e.V for the excellent organisation! Two days filled with expertise and insights from projects from all over Europe with smart and bidirectional charging. Some insights from the various contributions and discussions: 💤 Efficiency / standby losses / lifetime of components other than the battery with smart and bidirectional charging (we don't have to worry about the battery itself: smart charging improves battery life) ⚖️ V2G is preferable to V2H in terms of efficiency (and the two are usually aligned anyway with the right price signals) 📑 Grid codes - the proposed European RfG and DCC - are a market-wide challenge for AC charging, but surmountable 🍽️ No one size fits all: A tariff flavour for everyone: fixed tariffs with a smart charging credit for some, a dynamic tariff for others 🦤 The German smart meter (and the whole communication ecosystem around it) remains a curiosity in Europe. It is interesting that the German government may be preparing a V2G metering solution that is more in line with the rest of Europe. 🏖️ The EU's announced regulatory sandboxes should be used to test tariff and tax changes, not to demonstrate the technical feasibility of V2G, as this has already been proven 🧠 TSO/DSO coordination and, more broadly, the combination of the multitude of mechanisms and markets are given the full attention they deserve. Data exchange is key, complex and necessary. And that starts with working with and for users. (session photos (c) HDT/together concept)

Welp, the dealership where I bought my car last year apparently screwed up the EV tax credit paperwork and the IRS is rejecting my tax return. So many dealerships fucked it up that the IRS has now made a new rule to try to fix it.

If you're trying to get a used EV tax credit in the US this year, beware. If you wait until the last day to file you may get a nasty surprise.

The Drive · Dealers Screwed Up EV Tax Credit Paperwork. Now the IRS Is Rejecting Buyers' Tax ReturnsIssues with some EV owners' Clean Vehicle Tax Credit are causing big delays, not only on the $7,500 rebate but also their entire 2024 tax returns.

Tesla sales are down. What a surprise...

I have never been a fan of Teslas. I am a fan of EVs, however, and there is just a lot of quality vehicles out there and most of them have a dashboard, which IMHO should be a requirement, as well as normal placement of things like turn signal controls and window wiper controls.

I know some of you just dislike cars in general and I respect that. I love walking and biking as well, but sometimes I need to drive and then I prefer EVs.

Elon Musk looking pensive
www.bbc.comTesla sales plunge after Elon Musk backlashThe car maker's sales slide has been attributed to competition and controversy around its boss.

Musk spent the last year feeding Tesla into the wood chipper. He said reservations of Tesla’s $100K Cybertruck topped 500K. Tesla sold 50K, instead of building a $25K vehicle. BYD and others are eating its lunch in China, and Musk alienated all of Tesla’s other markets. Tesla’s core market is now Republicans who believe EVs should be eliminated and want cheaper gas prices.

MastodonAsymco (@asymco@mastodon.social)Tesla reported deliveries of 336,681 globally in the January to March quarter. The figure was down from sales of 387,000 in the same period a year ago. (A drop of 13%) The decline came despite deep discounts, zero financing and other incentives. Analysts polled by FactSet expected much higher deliveries of 408,000.

@withaveeay Yup, I share this grump. We came from Portree to Pitlochry on Monday. Added to our joys - a record number of out of order car chargers. The pick of which was Roy Bridge which was working (according to the app) when we left but not when we arrived - we made it to Newtonmore with 12 miles to spare but would have been stuffed if it had not been working… #EV

Mj ještě jeden odběr a bude to jubilejní 4000. odebíraný - asi by zasloužil nějakou výhru

My wife and I were thinking of switching to an EV before all the prices start going up due to the tarrifs but the US EV market is really underwhelming.

Most of the options are either SUVs or overpriced luxury cars. I just want a reasonably priced sedan that can fit 5 people including two car seats comfortably.
