So schöne #Nachhaltigkeit.
Soweit zufrieden.

(*You know it's exciting because of all the exclamation marks)
I remember in the late 90s installing Red Hat #Linux for the first time, booting into X, and thinking "OMG I'm in love".
That feeling has never dissipated.
I hopped from Red Hat to Mandrake and then to Ubuntu and loved every minute. Then I discovered gaming and, to my regret, I had to use Windows.
Nowadays, my life is very different - I became more and more disabled over the years - and found myself having to survive on benefits.
I have 2 machines: a 2014 MacBook Air and an 8 year old PC. The laptop cannot run MacOS and support for Windows10 was being withdrawn. Being on benefits, buying a new machine is out of the question. Money is just too tight. So, once again, I was drawn to Linux.
I installed #Xubuntu on the laptop and #Kubuntu on the PC. It has breathed new life into both computers. They run flawlessly and am incredibly grateful for them.
If and when the time comes where I can afford a new PC, I won't be effing around. Linux will be installed on it.
M$/Apple are my past.
Do you have a few minutes to spare in the next few days? Mind testing a @xubuntu point release?
#Xubuntu 24.04.2 is ready for testing on https://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/465/builds
It features #Linux kernel 6.11 (formerly 6.8) and numerous bug fixes, including the obscure xfce4-panel crash on close: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-panel/+bug/2064846

Thanks for any testing you can provide (and record in the test tracker)!
My bad boy HP Stream 14 got a new battery. After 8 years of honorable service he's got a little exhausted. But after this refreshment he's as bright as ever.
It's been probably a dozen books that I have translated on this laptop since 2017.
He saw #Xubuntu , #Manjaro , #FreeBSD , #OpenBSD and now runs #Slackware (not sure for how long, though).
I'm happy I solved a #Linux problem myself, without the internet's help.
Couldn't successfully "sudo snap refresh firefox" on Xubuntu 24.10 without a couple head-scratching errors. I had a typo in /etc/fstab (fixed) and needed to install hunspell (why? It seems to be a dependency now that wasn't getting pulled in? ). But all's well now.

Welcome to 2025! The first @xubuntu development update of the year is now available! The latest updates to arrive in 25.04 "Plucky Puffin" include Xfce 4.20, GIMP 3.0, and many smaller updates that refresh the Ubuntu base.

Xfce 4.20

Beyond the release of Xfce 4.20, I've also been thinking about theming in Xubuntu.
We've long shipped the Greybird and Numix themes. Greybird was developed largely internally ( Shimmer Project), but hasn't had much love in recent years. The same can be said for Numix.
What themes do you recommend that are well-maintained and work well with Xfce, MATE, and GNOME? Would they be a good fit for Xubuntu?
GIMP 3.0 RC1 has landed in @xubuntu 25.04!
