"Has Trump cancelled Christmas?"

It'll be a gloomy year unless donors can convince #Republicans to end his #tariffs, now.

Chinese producers of plastic Christmas trees & other festive decorations say orders from US clients, which are crucial for their bus, should've started to come in by now. But bc of surging import tariffs -they haven’t.

Trump: hiked tariffs on Chinese imports to >104% in an escalating trade war that threatens great pain-.

"President Donald Trump said Tuesday that pharmaceutical imports will soon be hit with 'major' tariffs as part of his efforts to drive manufacturing back to the U.S.

Drug imports evaded the first round of tariffs that Trump imposed on countries around the world, but the president said they will not be spared."

It’s kind of amazing to me how every step of the way the countermeasures to Trump’s tariff insanity are more reasonable than what he’s doing, and whenever other countries seek to punish red states over blue states, it’s a sort of chef’s kiss to show they know we fucking hate this shit just as much as they do.

Bravo China, bravo Canada, and anyone else who takes that appeoach

Interview: Musk Stands to Get Even Richer as Trump seeks $1 Trillion Budget for Pentagon

A $1 trillion budget is a record amount since World War II.

The $1t budget is completely unnecessary, & "almost the only beneficiaries are going to be the weapons manufacturers", Silicon Valley defense technology startups, eg, Palantir & SpaceX, included.

Encouragement - Why work for an Administration that seems to hate you?

I keep seeing this question pop up and I wanted to share some perspective from someone who is doing their best to support friends and family who are holding the line… Why work for an Administration that seems to hate you? Because it’s not the entire Administration—it’s a small but loud group of cynics, tyrants, and ideologues who thrive on anti-government rhetoric. They don’t hate you, personally—they hate what you represent: accountability, science, equity, and public service. They resent the very idea that government can be a force for good, because it threatens the power they cling to, the bigotry they defend, and the chaos they profit from.But you didn’t sign up for their approval. You became a civil servant because you believe that clean water, public health, environmental protection, support for veterans, and justice for marginalized communities are worth fighting for.So no, you’re not working for them. You’re working in spite of them. You’re working for the mission. You’re working for the communities who depend on you to show up, even when it’s hard. Because the louder the hate gets, the more necessary your work becomes.And that’s something no amount of cynicism can take away. Keep your head up and hold the line.

I'm really tired of some people criticizing every protest action under the sun as "perfomative".

In my eyes, it's perfomative if there is no risk and no gain, especially if it's enacted by influential people.

senators kneeling while the Black Lives Matter protests mattered: perfomative
Kaepernick kneeling: not perfomative

Of course, the "no gain" part is probably in the eye of the beholder: Some saw Senator Booker's marathon speech as perfomative, I thought breaking a racist senator's record was a worthy goal. (And some people seem to demand that any protest action must have immediate positive consequences?)

Protesting in conservative towns is not risk-free and I think the gains are obvious.

Interview: Trump's War on the First Amendment: Targeting Students, Law Firms, Schools & Journalists

Legal scholars say the country is facing a constitutional crisis as Trump:

* ignores judicial decisions

* targets law firms

* uses the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to expel Venezuelan immigrants without due process.

Trump “is trying to neutralize the opposition [&] violate the law with impunity.”
