"The "unique" selling point of the #OMN (Open Media Network) often gets lost because people focus too much on the technical side rather than the simple, fundamental idea at its core. The real value proposition, which might sound like "common sense," is quite radical in today's landscape: in the #OMN, both people and content are treated as data objects in the commons by default and are only private/owned by exception.
This might seem straightforward, but it's a powerful shift away from the dominant models we see today. Most current #dotcons, are built the other way around, where data, content, and even people are enclosed and owned by default, with access and openness as rare exceptions. The #OMN flips this on its head, embodying the #4opens#OpenData, #OpenSource, #OpenProcess, and #OpenStandards, to create a network where sharing and collaboration are the norm, not the exception."

Next week we will join @fediforum
An online held event on Tue 2025-04-01 & Wed 2025-04-02

Participants help to create the program, a so called ‘unconference‘ & we want to show you more about the work we have done & the plans we have with Fediversity.eu We will also show a demo of our work, which is very much a ‘work-in-progress’.

More info & tickets:

We look forward to meeting you!

@ueeu I think crucial parts is looking at it's components, dependencies, size and for apps permissions.

#ReproduceableBuilds for example are important, so the actually released source code is what people actually get served as basis.

Plus in terms of #security, choose *real #E2EE with #SelfCustody of all the #Keys!

Just connected the @SURF #PeerTube (pilot) video platform:

▶️ video.edu.nl (focused on research, science and education) with
▶️ @waag (focus on technology and society) and
▶️ @publicspaces (advocating for a better internet)

The process was incredibly smooth… no restarts or any bumps. In just seconds, we federated 3 platforms across the #Fediverse using #ActivityPub in live action and combining hundreds of videos from trusted partners!

#smooth #openStandards #stepByStep
Thank you @peertube ‼️❤️💪

#Privacy Protection 🔒 Unlike Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, XTwitter, decentralised networks don’t harvest your data for profit: You are in full control!

True #DigitalFreedom 🚀 #Decentralization prevents corporate control – ensuring free speech and community-driven moderation: #Openstandards ensure interoperability, preventing monopolies and fostering innovation.

Also the blatant dismissal of absolitely basic #OpSec & #ComSec is just flabberghasting.

Only #decentralized, #OpenSource & #OpenStandards can actuall survive long-term and remain #secure.

It's the same reasons we use #PGPG/MIME & #SSH and not #X400 & #X25!

IOW: Think "How can you weaponize Signal?" and see what you csn do just holding key people in contempt...

The less #info a provider has, the less they can be forced to snitch upon customers.

"#JustUseSgnal!" is a form of dangerous "#TechPopulism" aimed at bamboozling #TechIlliterates who don't know better, abusing information asymetry to pull rank instead of investing the time and effort to *explain "how" and "why" this is indeed a good or bad idea.

The only ones that have a chance to beat that are @delta / #deltaChat but that's just #PGP/MIME #eMail in a nice UI...

  • You may now laugh at me and think my "#TinfoilHat sits too tight" but I'm shure sooner or later I'll be evidenced as correct...
Hachyderm.ioCassandrich (@dalias@hachyderm.io)@kkarhan@infosec.space @signalapp@mastodon.world @monocles@monocles.social @lauren@mastodon.laurenweinstein.org Very few systems promoted as Signal alternatives match the cryptographic privacy properties (see: ratcheting, etc.) of Signal. The claims about "located in the USA" and "Cloud Act" are all nonsense because the only threat to Signal users from this is availability (seizure and shutdown of the server infrastructure), not undetected breakage of privacy properties. There are presently no systems with superior privacy properties to Signal *and* level of functionality on par with what general public expects. There are a lot (like the XMPP stuff, *sigh*, and Matrix) that are worse in both regards. If you're happy with reduced functionality, Cwtch (and possibly some other similar Tor-based systems) or VeilidChat are stronger, but it's gonna be a while before you convince normies to use them, and in the mean time they're still going to be on insecure shit like WhatsApp, FB Messenger, Telegram, etc...

As much as a love celebrating and sharing the milestones of our little #NonProfit, this week I was once again reminded how incredibly hard it is to make our free, #OpenSource model work. When ICANN announced their Grant Program, I felt that @nlnetlabs – with a 25 year history in #OpenStandards and #DNS software development for the public benefit – would have a good chance of being awarded a awarded a grant with a proposal centered around usability and standards development. Turns out it wasn’t meant to be. Congrats to everyone who did make it!

@delta also the whole "BuT #mEtAdAtA?" Discussion is completely blown out of proportions by #Signal fanboys.

In fact, I'm convinced someone already made a #delta #chat #server as an #OnionService over @torproject / #Tor just for the lulz.

  • The biggest Advantage for Delta Chat is that it doesn't require yet another server but instead just uses #IMAP + #SMTP and can even be integrated in #corporate communications that require #archival and #indexing by merely feeding the private keys to said #eMail archival software [i.e. #benno #MailArchiv], which makes it possible to comply with regulations like #GoBD & #HGB where applicable.

Not that this is something the average user encounters, but it is a big bonus for larger organizations!
