“Migrants who were temporarily allowed to live in the United States by using an online appointment app have been told to leave the country "immediately," officials said Monday. It was unclear how many beneficiaries would be affected. “

I mean.... at least they gave some warning?

Wonder if the Statue of Liberty got the message…

Huge cuts at NIOSH mean that those who reply on respirators to keep themselves safe will have less protection. This impacts firefighters, miners, healthcare workers and all manner of industries.

It’s also devastating to the disability community.

“You do you” Covid policies left many of us with N95s as our main line of defence against repeat infection.

Respirators make public spaces accessible. They allow us to attend healthcare appointments without forced infection.

Cutting the people who ensure their quality will endanger disabled lives.

Saw someone say "This administration is destroying the government so thoroughly that it's gonna take, like, three Democratic administrations just to get it functioning as well as it was last year... That's why you shouldn't be upset when it's 2040 and the Democrats haven't delivered or even promised cool things like UBI, free healthcare, free college, free internet, massive wealth redistribution, and ranked choice voting."

No, besties. The Democrats aren't going to give us those things because they don't want to. Any debate as to whether or not they'll be able to is irrelevant. Nothing that good is even on their agenda in the first place. And they'd rather hand an election to someone they know is a fascist than change that. #Trump #america #usa #uspoli #uspolitics #dnc

@Remittancegirl Once upon a time I wrote my thesis on this topic, how to tell the truth of lived experience in conditions of censorship. At that time my focus was on Latin American dictatorships in the 1970s & 80s. Then on East Central Europe, 1945-89. Reagan, not a president I like to quote, famously called on the USSR to “take down” the Berlin Wall. Literally & figuratively. Now a different US president is intent on building a wall against knowing the truth. Ugh.

“The best way you can include the disability community in resistance efforts is to ensure they’re accessible. Often we want to participate only to find out that masks aren’t required, an event is being held in a space that isn’t accessible and/or online options aren’t being provided”

If you’re feeling left out of the #HandsOff protests, or you want to find ways to resist online, my chronic illness spoon saving guide has you covered.

To non disabled activists, please make your events accessible. Disabled people have a ton to offer resistance efforts, make sure to include us!

Omg. This story about the British 28yr old comic book artist and backpacker, staying at workaways and living her best life only to be detained at ICE jail when she tried to go to Canada. Guys SHE DREW PICTURES OF HER CELLMATES. 😢 this is a movie script.

theguardian.com/us-news/2025/a

and the unexpected, complicit, villain?

The Canada Border Services Agents!! 😡 😤

Why the hell are we turning these obvious tourists back into the hands of ICE!?

As a Canadian I am embarrassed and infuriated. A directive must be put out to Canadian border guards to show leniency!!

The story about the Canadian woman who ended up in an ICE prison is detailed here. Sounds like having a US Visa is a liability now tourist, or work… and if you have any kind of trouble with it or do anything that might be perceived as troublesome, expect trouble at the border.

The best advice for people in this article: if you need to renew your visa, do it at an airport on Canadian soil so you can’t be sent to a US prison.

“She was told they'd have to send her back to Canada. But as Mooney sat searching for flights home on her phone she says that a man appeared and told her to come with him.
She knew something was way off when they pulled the shoelaces from her sneakers.
"Later I found out that's so you don't hang yourself in jail," said Mooney.”

Jasmine Mooney was detained and held in immigration detention centres after attempting to apply for a visa and enter the U.S. from Mexico. Her lawyer says she's an example of shifts in how the U.S. is handling travellers

I know people who grew up on the US Border in Vancouver in the 60s and 70s. The border was a ditch they could walk or ride across as kids and go to the corner store. Those days ended years ago, but they are almost unthinkable now.

The warnings from Canada on travel to the US are frankly deeply shocking.

“The federal government updated its travel advisory on Friday, warning Canadians of possible detention should one be denied entry to the United States.
“Comply and be forthcoming in all interactions with border authorities,” reads the advisory. “If you are denied entry, you could be detained while awaiting deportation.”
The government also warned that travellers should expect to be heavily questioned and may have their electronic devices searched.

“Individual border agents often have significant discretion in making those determinations,” the advisory reads. “U.S. authorities strictly enforce entry requirements. Expect scrutiny at ports of entry, including of electronic devices.””
