Hat nun doch etwas länger gedauert, sollte aber heute noch online gehen: Nächster Teil meiner Linux-Mint-Serie
Fotomanagement und Smartphone-Sync
I'm looking for a #photo app (something like iCloud photos) but #self-hosted. Must be able to be hosted locally and must have an iOS app so that there is automatic sync.
And not #NextCloud :)
I am currently considering #immich, #photoprism and #photonix.
Any poppositions? And why?

PhotoPrism's latest release adds PDF support, improved UI, and new translations and sets the stage for upcoming batch editing and multi-user features.

@jalict Same here!
Only 2% of my whole personal media storage is in my RasPi, the remaining 98% is sitting in many hard disks, totally disordered, patiently waiting to be sorted and cleaned. Soooo much work to do!!!
I wish someone could do an in-depth benchmark and comparison between #Immich and #PhotoPrism! Unfortunately, I don’t have the time and I lack the knowledge and skills to do a proper evaluation.
Just last week I was chatting with @Pitte wondering how much the fact that PhotoPrism is in Go and Immich is in TypeScript affects their actual performance in production. Who knows which one is the lightest?
BTW I personally know the Photoprism team and they are wonderful people, plus the software is great, so I am not planning on switching anytime soon.
I just run two (TWO) commands in my #RaspberryPi, and in 4 (FOUR) minutes I got the latest major version of the awesome @photoprism running smoothly, no issues. This is the result of wise and professional work that prioritizes stability and bug fixing over fancy breaking features. Move fast, break things Go slow, fix everything.
Thank you so much to all PhotoPrism contributors for all this! Long live self-hosted photo management software!
Own your own data, own your own pictures, own your own videos! #PhotoPrism makes it incredibly easy and fun, too!

The first PhotoPrism update for 2025 brings a sleek UI, hybrid photo-video viewer, and 3D Earth view for Places—plus some usability and performance enhancements.

Happy I Love Free Software Day!
Unfortunately, this year I could not join nor organize any in-person celebration, BUT of course I want to share my gratitude to the many, countless #FreeSoftware services I don’t merely use, but actually depend on.
Last year, I decided to focus only on #YunoHost, because it would have been crazy to list all the projects I use and I love.
This time, even if I will most certainly forget someone, I am challenging myself to mention all the #LibreSoftware my life is powered by.
Without further ado, THANK YOU to:
Lastly, but most importantly, the biggest thank you goes to all the free software libraries and dependencies the above mentioned #software are made of/built with, including #C, #JavaScript, #Python, #Rust, and all community-maintained programming languages.
I am super sorry if I forgot someone!
Notes for January 27-February 2
This was a lively week both AI-wise and otherwise–if you’ll pardon the pun.(...)

Does anyone use #PhotoPrism? does it install OK on desktop or should I be using a separate machine for it?
@sesivany @newhinton I am pretty happy with #PhotoSync. Give it a try. So far I have tried #photoprism and #Immich as targets.
@jcrabapple still the same like last year…
@grillo_delmal here are some ideas:
- #homeassistant to control your smart things
- #pihole to block ads at dns level
- #jellyfin for your media
- #photoprism for your pictures
- #UptimeKuma to monitor your services
- #tailscale to access it all remotely
It is official: I hate Docker.
I seem to have some inconsistencies for the MariaDB configuration for my Photoprism installation.
The initial install was with MariaDB 10.5 and in the past I have upgraded to 11.4. But when I wanto to upgrade MariaDB now, a fresh image is being installed, losing effectively the Photoprism installation.
Have tried a lot, but am stuck.
Looking into a #selfhosted photo library solution. Considering #immich and #photoprism. Any tips or experiences to share about using them, what works well, not as well? Also, any other options I should consider?
Finally, I have set up my self-hosted photo library that's self accessible from the web (securely). Also with a killer domain name.
Thanks to #Photoprism and #Cloudflare Tunnels
Benutzt von euch zufällig jemand #PhotoPrism und weiß, ob die Gesichtserkennung darin auch bei Videos funktioniert?
Synology Photos ist als Google Fotos Ersatz schon ganz ok, aber das fehlt mir. :(
